I’m not as young as I once was.
This picture was taken eight years ago during my second ever visit to Sedona. We hiked to the top of Cathedral Rock, took some pics, then found this rocky protrusion off to side of the trail and scaled it. I’m doing my best Thor impression because, duh, comics.
Yesterday, I took a hike along a river trail that, if I stuck with it, could have lead me back to Cathedral Rock. My though was, “Take this as far as you can. Break your boundaries. Go.”
I don’t think I even made it to the base of the Cathedral Rock hike. Just got lost in the woods along the way. Embarrassing, sure, but when you’re in Sedona there really isn’t a wrong turn you can take.

Pretty sure my heart rate was cracking the 130s as I started my ascent. Needed to sit down and rest. First time that’s happened on a hike in a long time. I know I’m reaching “Dad Shape Final Form” and if I want to go into my 40s without any back problems I should probably fix, but I think I did okay, all things considered.
Still found time to take some okay shots. It’s not standing on the tippy-top of a tall mountain, but a short mountain is just as good.

It’s better to push boundaries than break them. Especially when you have people relying on you back home.
