Holy God the boys are at preschool and I don’t know what to think.

On one hand, I have the day (mostly) to myself. We still have Baby C at home, so when he wakes up from his nap there will be some Papa and Baby time. On the other hand, I have time in the middle of the day to write this without worrying about looking down at the screen too long and oops oh no the kitchen is on fire and both of my sons are wielding flaming knives.

Balance. All balance.

PROJECT UPDATE – (Not sure what to permanently call this, but I want to start including them in my STATUS posts so I can keep track of my work and my thinking about my work. I recently learned J.R.R. Tolkien kept diaries about his writing, especially in the process of revising and adding on to his works throughout the years, no thanks to the constant mistakes American publishers made with his writing. I’m not saying I’m Tolkien, or that my work is anywhere near comparable, but writing about my work, thinking on the page, doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.)

BIANCA: In the middle of 3rd draft edits. When this is going on, it’s easy to look at the red pen marks on the printed up 2nd draft and think, “This is the only thing I need to change.” It’s more than that. You’re reading it again. Ask yourself, “Is this book hitting the feelings I want? Is it flowing properly? Why do I like this scene so much?”

Mine is a book about the strength of the young people, and how the nerdy things in our lives can lead to the longest and strongest friendships they have. I have to make sure the book is embodying that or I’ve failed.

LISTENING – Electric Callboy. Just watch.

READING – I’ve started the new year with two massive tomes for the month. MARVEL COMICS: THE UNTOLD STORY by Sean Howe and, strangely, THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING by J.R.R. Tolkein. I’m switching off between them every night, and will still count graphic novels read as books completed. My GoodReads goal for the year is 48 books. 24 novels, 24+ graphic novels. Let’s do it.

Thanks for reading,
