Been having some strange medical issues this year.
It all started with the COVID back at the end of February, which cancelled my son, Kai’s, 2nd birthday party. So far, so corona, but what happened after is what really took me out.
I’d have days filled with fatigue, shortness of breath, and just a general irritability about the world. This would happen nearly every other day. Multiple times a week. I hadn’t seen a PCP in a over four years (or even had a PCP picked out), so I found one and tried to get it fixed. Turned out my vitamin B12 levels were comically LOW. Like, so low I’m sure the tech who took the vitals let out a chuckle when they got the results.
I’ve been on B12 injections ever since, first weekly, now monthly. It’s gotten better. Honestly.
But there’s till the heart palpitations and this new thing in my hands and wrists if I’m doing physical labor the wrong way.
After a couple more visits to some specialists, setting up appointments, cancelling appointments, rescheduling appointments, an MRI, and a cat scan, I’ve learned a few things.
First, my heart is fine. Great, even. No signs of plaque or calcium buildup or that the COVID affected it in any way negatively. Doc suggested a few lifestyle changes, like more water, less caffeine, and finding ways to de-stress. I was like, “Doc, I’m a stay-at-home dad and I work with kids.”
Second, the MRI showed that I have two deviated discs in my neck. One is pinching on the right side harder than the left. How does this happen? I don’t know. I’m 37. Stuff happens. Going to have to see a physical therapist about this, maybe some acupuncture. And what’s funny is the big secret of physical therapy for injuries like this (like when I had to go for my sore back a couple years ago) is that if you just went into your mid-30s exercising, and stretching and moving, like you did when you were a kid, you would have had a better chance to avoid these issues. I had three kids and stopped working out like I was before and now my body suffered for it. That’s fine. I can accept that.
Third, the neurologist also noted some small white spots in my brain. She thinks it’s nothing and is recommending me to an MS specialist.
It’s nothing.
