I did a review of a mini notebook carrier not that long ago that ended up being pretty popular (I mean, relatively, you know?) so I’m back again to talk about pencil cases!

Actually, a case that can transform to become a standing case no matter where you’re working.

A freestanding pencil pouch next to an open Field Notes notebook.

That’s right! This baby transforms, flips open, and can free stand on any flat surface. Maybe even un-flat surfaces! Who’s to say? The world is totally open!

No, but seriously, this thing was sent from a friend residing in Japan. I’m not familiar with the Sma Sta brand or any of their other products, but I will speak for this one. When it stands, it stands. There’s no wobble or re-balancing needed to get this thing up. You unzip, put the metal clasps together, and you’re good to go. The smaller pouch in front can be used for holding your phone, too, if that’s something you need to do, and it also has a smaller pocket for pencil lead cases or erasers or what have you. A small piece of Velcro keeps it shut when needed. All in all, highly recommended, especially for someone like me, a dad who works from home, in various areas (the kitchen table, the playroom floor, etc.) and likes having a diverse selection of writing tools and reloads to pick from.

Kitchen table writing is becoming more common for me.

It does mean, sadly, this one I receive a couple Christmases ago is taking a break. Nothing like cycling tools out, but I will miss it for a while.
