I’ve had this website for over six years now. It’ll be seven this upcoming May. Within that time I’ve written nearly 500 blog posts on here (this one is 495). While the first three years I managed to get out over 100 posts a year, since the boys were all born, my output has slowed. Still, this year yielded more views compared to all previous years.
It’s kind of impressive, really. Have I been smarter with my posting windows? With the titles of the posts? Is it because I’m using Bluesky and Threads now to help share my work as opposed to the dumpster fire that is Twitter?
It’s probably the last one.
Still, I’ll try to think of something big for 500 and what I need to do with this site going forward. I had dreams of using this is as a public facing notebook, a way to break down other people’s stories to understand why they do/don’t work, becoming a published author and what I’m learning along the way, and a method to connect with other writers and people who visited.
I’ve done those things in parts but not to the extent I wanted. Especially the break down bit. I really, REALLY like writing longer prose about books and comics and movies but find making time is hard, now. My limited writing time has to be spent with the book.
I guess I’m not going anywhere. There’s still time to make this site something more. I can always take it out of its mid-hibernation phase.
