Hello and good morning.

I was awake at 3:30a this morning because all of my boys decided, in a secret meeting held under the stairs by candlelight with blood runes on the wall many eons agi, that was the best time to come into our bedroom to snuggle.

And they’re not wrong.

I was supposed to do this post yesterday, but Baby B decided to grab my shoulder and cuddle even harder once my alarm went off at 5:20a.

When they say that trying to become a writer with kids is hard, no one ever mention stuff like this.

PROJECT UPDATE:

BIANCA – Finished up Project BIANCA, my middle grade contemporary fantasy, late last year and then proceeded to give myself a few weeks off for the winter holiday. Now that the year’s begun I’m back at it, getting it ready to start pitching agents. First up is the Pitch, proper, then next will be the Synopsis. For anyone who doesn’t know, writing both of these is like pulling your own hair out with a tweezer, one by one, but no, I don’t exactly know why. Goal is to have the complete pitch package (including author bio and comp titles) by the end of the month.

CITY – This is a new project, thought up back in October while I was in Disneyland with my wife for a getaway trip. Because we didn’t have kids with us we were able to sit and eat, quietly, and just enjoy the ambience. I scribbled across a Field Notes a hundred different ideas for this story and have carried it with me since. I think it’s ready to move to the full story stage, meaning I get a big notebook and turn that into the story bible. Character bios, sample sentences, and the outline. This, also, is due by the end of the month so I can start the first draft in February.

#AMQUERYING – NESS received it’s full request nearly a month ago, but it’s not time to stop. It’s a new year, so hopefully a lot of agents who were closed to clear out their query pile have opened back up. That being said, it’s time to pull Project GREY from the rotation, fully. I’ve been toying with the idea for a while, but I just don’t have the confidence to even lie to myself anymore. It needs to be out of pitching rotation and taken back to the drawing board.

CURRENTLY LISTENING:

I tried to clear out my podcast list, and looking to add new ones (drop any recs in the comments). For fans of Magic the Gathering, this is one of the better one. This, and their Commander podcast. Trying to switch over from merely WATCHING podcasts and want to instead LISTEN to them.

CURRENTLY READING: I’m Starting to Worry About this Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin

Started this three days ago, about 90 pages in, and am loving every moment. For fans of Jason’s analytical commentary writing, where he breaks down a part of the world, this is like that, but over 300+ pages with an enticing plot that puts a magnifying lens on our world. Can’t wait to see where it goes.
